*Greatcoats as issued were rather shapeless, double-breasted, with a half-belt at the back. When they were issued we were instructed to alter them to “the apprentice standard” by shortening the half-belt, and pressing in box pleats from shoulder blades to the hem, and pressing the sleeves to a square appearance. Everyone did it, and the result was quite smart.
